You Don’t Use Words Like That, St. Louise Is Listening

it was so great to get out tonight and see a solo artist from a band that i’ve been a fan of for along time now. his solo stuff is so completely different from soul coughing, but nonetheless mike doughty puts on a great show with his new band. he even played a couple of my favorite soul coughing songs including “true dreams of wichita” and “st. louise is listening.” most of his recent stuff i’m a fan of mostly because of his song writing ability. instrumentally there’s nothing too impressive going on there. then there’s artists like robert randolph (the main act tonight) who i like to see live purely for their musical talent. and saying that he’s probably one of the greatest guitarists of our time might somehow be an understatement. simply because he’s so much more than an amazing guitarist. he’s one of the greatest showmen i’ve seen in a really long time. he gets everyone in the crowd involved in so many different ways. he had a bunch of people on the stage dancing as he played. then he had a couple of random people from the audience come up and solo with his band. impressive and very enjoyable show to say the least.
